sugar & stripes

I have a mild obsession with spandex dresses (example A), that hit mid-shin & rock a funky print.  As soon as I saw this dress from Sugarlips, I had to have it. The sporadic red stripes gives the dress a little more dimension, & paired with 6 inch heels & a top bun.. I am that much closer to heaven.

Sad but true, horizontal stripes aren't everyone's best friend.. they can make you look wide when all you want to look is skinny (amen!). The rules I try to follow when rocking a spandex dress:

1. No beer. Beer = bloat.
2. (Cute) High waisted underwear is your best friend.
3. Confidence. Stand tall, be proud, & show those stripes what's up.

New York City is one of those cities that.. you can't wait to get to & you can't wait to leave. I am overly obsessed with this city - the array of fashionable people roaming the streets, the underground vintage yard sales I aimlessly come by, the nightlife that seems to never end, & the unlimited amount of cuisines you can find at every corner. I also hate how driving a car in the city is nearly impossible, that half of my day consists of walking.. just walking, & that grocery stores are within 20 miles of each other resulting in a spontaneous lunch consisting of dipped ice cream cones & roasted nuts (um, my favorite!).

I have my heart set on moving somewhere.. anywhere but Boston, actually. New York has been merely a thought in my mind for years, & every time I visit I find myself desperately wanting to move into a tiny apartment in Williamsburg, visiting art galleries on the weekdays & riding my beach cruiser to flea markets on the weekend. Someday...

Over the weekend, the gals & I ran away to New York for bright lights, vintage finds, & cocktails with old friends. I was also invited to stop by the Walter Baker showroom, & can not even stress how much fun I had - if only every weekend was filled with amazing designers & endless racks of clothes! I was lucky enough to walk in on the middle of a photo shoot for their 2013 resort collection, while rummaging through the racks of the Summer & Fall 2012 collections. All I can say is.. brights, sheer, & the perfect amount of leather trimmings made me love Walter Baker even more than I already do.

It's official.. the Zara sale will be the death of both me & my bank account. I snagged this adorable fringe suede skirt a few weeks ago (it's still available, & even cheaper now!) & was giddy with excitement when it arrived in the mail. I kept the accessories to a minimum, so the skirt would shine & paired it with this neon sweater for a dressed up, but casual look.

Printed pants are everywhere & it doesn't help my cause that they look & feel like pajamas. I've had my heart set on finding the perfect pair for weeks, & thanks to a fellow blogger I found these from ASOS for perfectly cheap. My oh so kind mother said they weren't the most flattering, but if they replicate pajamas.. I could care less.

Scouring the racks of Urban Outfitters for something festive for the 4th, I found this cute maxi for.. dun, dun, dun.. $10! The side slits were unexpected & it was the perfect shade of blue for the festivities. I swear, I've become a pro bargain hunter when it comes to Urban Outfitters. I topped it off with a cute jean vest & some bright accessories, & headed out for some 4th of July fun.

Last week I had one of those horrible, no good, very bad weeks - but sunflowers made everything better. Maxi dresses are one of my favorite summer go to's - talk about a comfortable dress with no restrictions. They are forgiving, breezy, & comfortable, while still killer cute. On a lighter note, I should stop investing in designer glasses when I just live in these cheap $5 aviators. Funny how that works..
