my microblading experience

In: beauty series

I asked, you answered: a blog post documenting my experience getting my (sad, pathetic, sparse) eyebrows microbladed by Lacey at Lacey Michael Microblading. Ten years ago, I had THE best eyebrows.. like, thick, full, Gigi Hadid looking eyebrows. Like the rest of my generation, I continuously plucked & waxed my eyebrows until there wasn’t much left..  which is why I decided to give microblading a go.

Microblading is semi permanent make-up that is meant to camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair strokes. It’s similar to a tattoo – there’s an incision in the skin, dye is inserted, & it requires a healing period of 7-10 days. The color fades overtime & lasts 6-18 months. The process takes roughly 2 hours, with 45 minutes dedicated to the actual task of microblading & it is followed by a touch-up appointment 6 weeks later.

Here’s a step-by-step on how my appointment with Lacey went down, which you can see in my (crappy iPhone) video below:

Step 1: I asked a million questions (duh!) & explained my current hiccups with my eyebrows.

Step 2: She outlined my desired brow shape based on my bone structure with a charcoal pencil.

Step 3: She mixed the dye based on my hair color.

Step 4: She started microblading (sans numbing cream) my left eyebrow using a tool that features several small needles. First, she placed the needle in the dye. Then, she used the tool on my skin to create feather like strokes, inserting the dye into the incision. To be honest, pain level is about a 4 out of 10.

Step 5: Before moving onto my right eyebrow, she paints extra dye onto my eyebrow to “soak in.”

Step 6: She microblades the right eyebrow. Once complete, she paints extra dye on to it to “soak in.”

Step 7: Steps 4-6 is repeated again, with the application of numbing cream.

Step 8: Once complete, the dye is wiped off both brows. I inspect them & point out any inconsistencies, which she fixes.

Step 9: & BAM! I now have eyebrows.

The microblading healing process is a pain in the butt. You can’t get your eyebrows wet for a week, which is super awkward when showering & annoying if you want to break a sweat. They also scab over, just like any cut would, & fall off.. sexy. Below is a helpful guide that Lacey shared with me to document how they heal over a 2 week period.

It’s only been two weeks since my initial appointment, & they are not as dark as I was hoping they’d be. Lacey reassured me that they darken as they heal & that a touch-up appointment makes all the difference. I will be updating this blog post with my end result once my touch-up is complete!

If you live in the Boston area & are interested in microblading, I highly recommend Lacey! You can view her work on Instagram here. Lucky for you, she has extended her Black Friday deal & is offering a major discount, so send her a DM to get the deets.

Thank you to Lacey for providing this service to me for free. As always, my opinions are my own.
